Location

Situated on the banks of Loch Alsh, Avernish Lodge is close to a number of popular tourist attractions, castles, mountains and tourist hotspots.

Food & Drink

There is a local SPAR shop only a few miles away at Balmacara, or you can find a full range of shops and a Co-op supermarket in Kyle of Lochalsh.

Restaurants are plentiful in the local area, such as The Clachan Bar in Dornie as a place to visit for great quality bar meals, but we highly recommend a trip over to Plockton to dine at fine restaurants such as Plockton Shores or the Plockton Inn. If you fancy travelling a little further afield, there’s some top quality nosh to be had at the Three Chimneys and the Loch Bay Restaurant, both on the Isle of Skye.

Outdoor Activities

If the outdoors are your thing, you’re in the perfect place. We’re surrounded by vast natural expanses, rolling hills and all of nature’s finest flora and fauna.

Walking and hiking are popular activities, with the infamous 5 Sisters of Kintail only a few miles away, it’s an easily accessible way of witnessing the stunning vistas the area has to offer. Find more information at WalkScotland.co.uk or WalkHighlands.co.uk.

Mountain biking is another popular way of exploring the local area, with famous trails such as The Quiraing, Sligachan, Torridon and Kintail, all within an hour’s drive. If you want to cycle from the front door, there is a brilliant 40km loop to Plockton and back (with options to extend or curtail the route). Feel free to ask for more details if you wish to ride this route. You can find more information about where to ride at MtbTrails.info and Trail Forks.

If you are planning on spending some time outdoors in the summer months, always make sure that you apply some insect repellent to combat the insatiable midges. If you have never experienced a full-on midge attack, they can really ruin your day if caught out, so don’t say we haven’t warned you!
